Paraphrases over Mozart’s Requiem KV 626

By Hans Jørgen Bendixen 2021

After Art is pleased to introduce this new series of artwork from Danish artist, Hans Jørgen Bendixen

“Each of the 14 digital photo montages in this series is linked to a specific movement in Mozart's great choral work: Requiem KV 626. The montage is named after the movement to which the montage is attached.

In the montages, I have strived for figures, colours, movements and moods in the motifs to reflect figures, colours, movements and moods in the music.

In respect of this musical work's connection to faith and religion, I chose to create my abstract montages using digitally processed fragments of images I have captured in religious spaces, on my travels around the world. From churches to Monasteries, Cathedrals and Mosques these places. loved by and inspiring the faithful, were at the heart of my art montages. The blue backgrounds in each piece were created from processed fragments of photos of the heavens seen above the respective religious sites and the colour palette therein is reminiscent of the 18th and 19th century Rococo movement.
